Get those spoilers outta here |
1. No.6
I don't know what it is about a lot of dystopian anime that make them all turn out pretty bad, but No.6 should be one of the poster children for it. What started as a very interesting concept turned into an extremely convoluted story that never got much explanation and an extremely forced and rushed ending. The characters also never really stood out to me, or at least stood out in a good way. The main character was weak in every sense of the word and that barely changed even in the end. In the end, the side characters became more interesting than the main character though I guess that's really not saying too much since the main character wasn't that great to begin with.
2. Zetsuen no Tempest
The further this anime dragged on, the more confused and angry I got at it. The things I wanted explained either never got fully explained or were never fully explained. Also why the heck are these kids quoting lines from Shakespeare at every turn. Does literally everyone in this anime know Shakespeare by heart? The set up of the anime is what made it so interesting initially but when the solutions to the mysteries that they set up are unsatisfactory, it doesn't make the anime get any better.
3. Eureka 7
Oh man, the things I could say about Eureka 7. I loved it when it first came out but then about half way through the anime it started getting very weird. It's one of those times when you wish they didn't explain something because the explanation ended up being extremely silly and became the new focus of the anime. Eureka 7 started strong enough with exciting mecha fights and entertaining scenarios and character interaction, but eventually it lost most of that and became confusing and not as great as it started.
4. Sword Art Online
If you asked anyone after the first episode of Sword Art Online what they thought of it, I highly doubt there would be anyone who told you that they didn't want to watch the next episode. The first episode of SAO was one of the best episode 1's in anime history in my opinion but slowly but surely it started to get worse and worse until it got to the point that you'd want to drop it. The reason it got worse is mostly because of the characters and story. The first story arc in SAO was ok but after that it started feeling increasingly generic, poorly paced, and weaker than the first arc ever was.
5. Mawaru Penguindrum
SEIZON SENRYAKU!!!
Don't get me wrong, I still like this anime, but let's face it, after a certain point it just didn't make sense. Sure, even in the beginning it didn't make sense but it was still an entertaining watch. When they tried to explain everything, they didn't do it very well and as a result, everything became more confusing than it had to be.The reason Penguindrum makes it to this list is for this very reason. It did very poor in the explanation department and then ended up with a poorly explained ending effectively not tying anything together or attempting to make more sense. I liked Pengindrum but it ended weaker than it could have. .
