Top 10 Male Characters
10. Harima Kenji
Appears in: School Rumble
Harima Kenji is part of the backbone of the greatest moments of School Rumble. His KY (inability to read the atmosphere) tendencies made everything even better when he constantly tried to score points with his crush but messed up in some way.
9. Joseph Joestar
Appears in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Joseph Joestar is one of the most entertaining characters to have ever graced the world of anime Just listen to him talk and tell me that you don't like him.
8. Sakata Gintoki
Appears in Gintama
The main character of Gintama, Gintoki is a troll, shounen character with a dark backside, scum of the earth, lazy, diabetic, samurai. I'm sure I'm missing other parts of his character but Gintoki is one of the most hilarious characters on this list. His actions are only made better with his voice actor Tomokazu Sugita's great performance. It can be argued that Gintama is as funny as it is because of Gintoki.
7. Sugisaki Ken
Sugisaki Ken is just the biggest G ever. If you thought main characters of harem anime sucked, Seitokai no Ichizon will make you like them again.
6.Hououin Kyouma
Appears in Steins;Gate
Arguably the best thing about Steins;Gate. Everything Hououin Kyouma does is just amazing.
5. Kamina
Appears in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
A man among man, Kmaina is an inspiration not only to the cast of Gurren Lagann but to the viewers as well. WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE?!
4. Spike Spiegel
Appears in Cowboy Bebop
Possibly one of the best lead roles in anime, Spike plays the role of a penniless bounty hunter the best out of anyone.
3. Roy Mustang
Appears in Full Metal Alchemist
Roy Mustang is just the best. Anything you want out of a character, he has. Badass? Check. Gentleman? Check. Humorous? Check. You can't go wrong with Roy Mustang.
2. Araragi Koyomi
Appears in the Monogatari series
Araragi is a hero among heros. He is the thing that ties Monogatari together so perfectly. His very character breathes life into not only the series but the genre as well. Whether it's when he's fooling around or fighting, he makes the series very enjoyable to watch.
1. Kintaro
Appears in Golden Boy
If you've never watched Golden Boy, watch the dub. After that, it'll be pretty clear why Kintaro is my favorite male character of all time.
Top 10 Female Characters
10. Yonomori Benio
Appears in Mikakunin de Shinkoukei
Benio is one of the reasons I think Mikakunin de Shinkoukei is so great. She's a very eccentric character that can change the pace of the anime extremely easily making serious situations into more comedic ones and comedic scenes into even more hilarious scenes.
9. Misaka Mikoto
Appears in To aru Majutsu no Index and To aru Kagaku no Railgun
Misaka is a great character who offers both comedy and action to the To aru series. Misaka's personality is what mainly puts her in my top 10 favorite female characters.
8. Furude Rika
Appears in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Rika is a tragic heroine who can't get a break. She's very wise for her age and carries a heavy burden but she always makes sure that she stays happy and looks our for her friends.
7. Ilya von Einzbern
Appears in Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, Carnival Phantasm, Fate/Kaleid Prisma Ilya
Ilya is another tragic heroine who is similar to Rika in the sense that she carries a heavy burden but she's different in the fact that she becomes twisted mostly due to her family's influence. The reason she lands in my top 10 is mostly due to how she changes over the course of F/SN and also her spinoff, Fate/Kaleid Prisma Ilya was pretty great.
6. Tohsaka Rin
Appears in Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, Carnival Phantasm, Fate/Kaleid Prisma Ilya
If you don't know the name, Tohsaka Rin, by now then I advise you watch F/SN. She is one of the strongest female leads of anime to date while also staying one of the most likeable. She has a fun personality that makes all the scenes that she's in, whether she's teasing or fighting, very enjoyable to watch.
5. Tsuruya
Appears in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Haruhi-chan, Nyoron Churuya
My favorite character from Haruhi isn't Nagato, it's not Asahina, it's not Haruhi or Asakura but a character who literally appears for maybe 10 minutes in the first season and 30-40 minutes in the second season. Why? Because her energy and trolling tendencies are some of the best parts of the show. Also dat laugh.
4. Tokisaki Kurumi
Appears in Date a Live
Kurumi is a very mysterious character who has her own hidden agenda. In Date a Live she serves as a pseudo antagonist and ally to the main character, Itsuka Shidou. In addition to having some really cool powers, Kurumi also has a personality that puts the protagonist in troublesome situations making for very entertaining scenes. She also has a unique speech pattern as well as a unique personality.
3. Ichinose Kotomi
Appears in Clannad
Kotomi is one of those silent trolls and those are my favorite kinds of trolls. She's extremely intelligent, kind, and overall talented at everything she does except a certain thing. Scenes with Kotomi make for some of the best memories from Clannad.
2. Fujibayashi Kyou
Appears in Clannad
Kyou is my favorite character from Clannad and my 2nd favorite from every anime because of her personality and actions. She starts off seeming like a regular tsundere but as the plot progresses and I learned more about her I began to appreciate her more and more as a character.
1. Mint Blamanche
Appears in Galaxy Angel
If you haven't watched Galaxy Angel, I'd highly recommend it. It's a non-stop episodic comedy anime where every episode is hilarious. Mint is the best character in my opinion from the series. She is intelligent and kind but can always find a way to have fun with her friends albeit sometimes being at their expense. Sawashiro Miyuki really makes the character work with her amazing voice acting. Because of that, no matter when I hear Sawashiro Miyuki, I always remember Mint.
